Jonathan Pike is the academic head at Cape Audio College.
His audio career began in the Hexagon Theatre at the University of KwaZulu Natal, Pietermaritzburg, where he worked as a lighting and sound engineer while completing his Bachelor of Arts degree. This experience ignited a passion for sound and lead him to move to Cape Town to study sound engineering formally at Cape Audio College. Coming from a family of educators, he jumped at the opportunity when he was offered employment at Cape Audio College in 2008 after completing his Diploma in Audio Engineering. Jonathan’s primary experience in the audio industry is as a studio recording engineer, and over the years has worked with many bands including Cape Town locals, The Rudimentals, and Caelo.
As academic head Jonathan is responsible for the administration and coordination of the Higher Certificate and Diploma curriculums offered at Cape Audio College, as well as actively teaching in both of these programmes. Jonathan has extensive education experience and has furthered his qualifications through continued studies at the University of Cape Town, where he is currently in the final stages of completing a Masters Degree in Higher Education. He has presented his research findings on curriculum design at Cape Audio College at the international Research in Engineering Education Symposium in 2019, and has had his research paper published through the conference proceedings. Jonathan is an AVID Certified Pro Tools instructor at both the 100 level user, and the 200 level operator certification.
