Rae is the founder of Cape Audio College and continues to run and manage the institution. Not only is Rae a qualified and experienced sound engineer he also holds a post-graduate qualification in education which makes the perfect combination for managing and teaching at a creative sound engineering college.
Rae qualified as a sound engineer in Australia and worked in various facets of the sound industry for a year in Australia after graduating. On return to South Africa Rae started an acoustic consulting operation whose clients included the New Apostolic Church and the SABC. Rae also founded and operated Tin Pan Alley Sound Productions, a recording studio facility, which he ran for 2 decades. During this time, he engineered many projects from album recordings to cinema and radio commercials for top brands in South Africa including Caltex, Markhams, Zippo, Windhoek Lager, Clicks, Red Bull and Gilbeys to name but a few. During this time Rae got to work with many top advertising agencies delivering top quality audio productions which culminated in a prestigious Multichoice/Kaleidoscope Vuka award presented by Spike Lee for best commercial overall. Apart from his illustrious career in the advertising industry Rae engineered and produced Bananas in Pyjamas, a well-known children’s program that received worldwide recognition.
