Jim Petrak is one of South Africa’s most established and respected Sound Designer and Sound Re-recording Mixers. He has designed and mixed soundtracks for more than 90 feature films having worked with numerous Award-winning international directors such as John Irvin (Mandela’s Gun), Terry George (Hotel Rwanda), Bronwyn Hughs (Stander), Phillip Noyce (Catch a Fire), Gavin Hood on the Academy Award-winning film Tsotsi, among many others.

In October 2008 Jim started Sound Surfers Audio Post Production. Since then he has been nominated 6 times for Best Achievement In Sound at the AMAA’s (African Movie Academy Awards) having taken the award home twice in both 2011 and 2012. Jim and his crew have also been nominated 7 times for best sound in a feature film at the SAFTA’s (South African Film and Television Awards) having won the award four times in 2006, 2014, 2017 and 2020.

Sound Surfers have proven the highest of standards in all of their work and have quickly become South Africa’s most respected and sought-after audio post-production companies.
